The Brutal Telling Book Review

Well apparently this book is part of a series but I haven’t read any of the others. Oops. The series is called the Inspector Gamache Series. He is the lead inspector on the cases in all the books. In all honesty it really didn’t make a difference to me. It seems like each book is a different homicide case and one of the things that carries over is the team solving it. It’s seems like the team has been to the town in the past as they are familiar with a lot of the townspeople.

The book takes place mainly in Quebec, in a small village called Three Pines. There are a few French words thrown into the mix but very basic and they won’t cause any issues if you don’t know them. Worse case scenario, there’s always google translate!

A hermit was murdered in an extremely small town, more like a village I suppose and no one seems to know who he is or where he came from. There’s not usually much crime there so they have to bring in a team. It’s always hard to describe a mystery book without giving anything away! But basically there are a lot of secrets that come out while they are digging into the crime.

A father comes back from the dead, a while lot of really expensive pieces of history are reacted, and there’s even a duck that wears baby clothes. The village is pretty shocked about the murder and its interesting to see some of the chapters from different characters as we learn a little more about their lives and their secrets.

I looked up Louise Penny and this book seems to be the fifth in a six book series. I have a whole lot of books to read currently but I’d like to go back and read the series from the start! From what I’ve seen online this one was the best of the bunch.

So you can either read the whole series or read this one at least on its own. Have you read anything from this author before?
