Usually I would like to say we wing how our days goes and go with the flow depending on the babies moods but this week I noticed we are settling into a comfortable routine. Obviously everyday isn’t the best day and sometimes all we do is watch tv but I really strive to make the best out of each day.
In order to feel like I had a productive day I make sure to spend quality time with each baby, get at least one thing done off of my to-do list, do one thing of cleaning and make sure Nora laughs. It seems silly but I love knowing that she’s having an okay day if I can make her laugh at least once.
My to-do list is usually composed of phone calls I have to make, things I want to order/buy, food I want to remember to eat and grocery items. This is what it used to look like but I ordered colourful chalk markers and am in the process of making it look all pretty.
Usually our day begins when Benjamin wakes up around 7, Daddy gets up to get ready for work and I lay around until Nora wakes around 7:30-8.
Both my babies are grumpy when they wake up (they get that from their Daddy,) so our morning needs to start off REALLY slowly so we don’t have any meltdowns.
8:00-10:00: Eat breakfast, watch Paw Patrol, tidy up whatever wasn’t done the night before. Do a load of laundry.
10:00-11:00: Since it’s starting to be nice outside again, we try to fit in a walk either at this time or later in the day. If not, Nora gets free play time and Benji gets tummy time/ play mat.
11:00-12:00: Nora used to be ready for a nap by 11 but for the past few weeks she’s been fighting it so we’ve yet to figure out “the perfect time.” Benji still naps during this time however. Nora has a snack.
12:00-12:30: I like Nora to be in bed by this time so that we don’t eat lunch too, too late. See if Benji wants to sleep more.
12:30-2:00: If Benji cooperates this is my “me” time to workout, read, write a blog post. Sometimes clean up, but it’s rare. Put laundry in dryer, and do another load if needed.
2:00-3:00: Benji is usually ready for another nap by this time so I give Nora lunch and get him to sleep. While he’s sleeping, I eat lunch and do the dishes/clean up from the morning.
3:00-5:00: I like to have a planned activity for Nora in the afternoon. For example, colouring, painting or a sensory bin. Go for a walk if we didn’t in the morning. More free time.
5:00-6:00: The tv goes back on around this time in order for me to cook and prepare supper until my mom and Daddy get home.
The rest of the evening is composed of us eating dinner, giving baths/showers, putting the babies to bed, cleaning up, pumping, and preparing for the next day.
I feel like when it’s all laid out like this my days seem so…boring. But in reality both babies keep me sooo busy and entertained that some days I don’t have enough time to get half of this stuff done! Amongst all this, there’s diaper changes, and breastfeeding and changing clothes 3x a day. It takes like 30 minutes to get us ready to go outside. And that’s if they’re cooperating. It’s eating and touching things they’re not supposed to. I never thought I would love my repetitive days as much as I do. I love spending quality time with my babies and I wouldn’t change them for anything.
