White as Silence Red as Song Book Review

This is Alessandro D’Avenia’s break out novel. It was originally done in Italian but has now been translated into English. It is a best seller and I’ve seen a lot of comments comparing it to The Fault in our Stars.

I do want to say that the cover is absolutely beautiful. I have a bad habit of judging a book by its cover and this one is definitely attention grabbing.

I guess there are some similar aspects for sure. It is a coming of age novel and the two main characters end up in the hospital. It is definitely a heart warming story of how he falls in love with a girl with Leukaemia. I can definitely see why it gets compared to. Leo is a 16 year old obsessed with soccer and Beatrice.

I had a hard time getting into this book. It’s slow to take off, at least it was for me. Though it is an easy read, I struggled through it. It is a good book just not one for me. I think I’ll go back to my murders and mystery books for a while and take a break from these new ones.
