I had been noticing for the past few months that as soon as I laid down to go to bed my nose would get blocked and I would have trouble breathing through my nose at night. This was bothersome because I am a nose breather all the time. I was waking up each morning with a super dry mouth from breathing through my mouth all night. It’s really weird though because as soon as I sit up in bed the next morning my nose instantly clears. Initially I thought I was just getting a cold, but no other symptoms ever came. I started slathering on Vicks Vapour Rub on my nose before bed, so I could breathe properly. That solved the problem for a bit, but it wasn’t a perfect solution.
It was only until after a few sleepovers with my boyfriend did he casually bring up the fact that I sometimes snore. I became all flustered because it’s a new relationship and you know it’s slightly embarrassing snoring in front of your significant other. He didn’t make a big deal about it at all even though he admitted that it was really loud one night and kept him awake for a bit. I instantly knew exactly what it was being caused by. I do tend to snore when I’m sick because of the nasal congestion, so because my nose gets so congested at night for some reason it was clearly causing me to snore. I apologized profusely after the night I kept him awake and he kept telling me that it was no big deal, but that I should look into Breathe Right strips.
I initially didn’t look into them right away. I tried propping my head up with some pillows at night, but that just started leaving me with a sore neck the next morning. I also like to sleep on my side, so I’ve noticed that side sleeping and being propped up by two pillows isn’t the most comfortable thing. After about a week I went onto the website and looked into whether Breathe Right strips would be right for me. I liked the fact that they were drug free and that it’s just a strip that you stick in the middle of your nose. The next time I was at Walmart I picked up a box of 8 extra strength to try.
The first night I tried them I was a little skeptical, but as soon as I put it on it instantly opened up my nasal passage and I could breathe! It was amazing! I was sleeping over at my boyfriend’s that night, and I finally wasn’t worried about snoring. When we woke up the next day I asked him if he heard anything, and he told me that there was no snoring. Since then I’ve been snore free. I only wear them when he sleeps over because I don’t feel the need to wear them solo because I don’t wake myself up from snoring (I feel like that would be pretty bad). I’ll definitely be buying another box to take home with me though when I go home for Christmas. My sister just loves to point out that she can hear me snoring from her room, so the strips will omit that problem. No more snoring for me due to nasal congestion.
I would highly recommend checking these things out if you suffer from a blocked nose at night. The difference is night and day. I notice the change instantly. While they may not be the most stylish things to wear to bed, I don’t care because I can breathe properly at night.
Are there any other drug free remedies for nasal congestion at night?
