The Fifth Season Book Review

I actually really liked this book! I know I sound surprised but it is because I didn’t choose this book for myself and I probably never would have. I was assigned to read this for a class I’m taking that studies the fantasy genre. This book is also the 2016 winner of the Hugo Award.

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin is the first in what seems to be a trilogy so far.  This is the only one I’ve read so far but I do plan on picking up the next one when I finish my semester.

This is about the world ending but it isn’t the typical world ending novel. Their world has a fifth season, some people survive it and some don’t. There are two types of people in the world, there are the ‘Stills’ and then there are the others. It’s hard to explain it but they can connect with the earth and… move it I guess you could say. The world doesn’t always end the same, sometimes it freezes, other times it could be tsunamis.

This book is told through the view of three females and of course they are connected but it takes you a while to figure out how. I don’t want to give it away of course so you’ll have to read it for yourself.

Have you guys read this one? Did you like the series?
