So over the weekend I was really craving roasted chickpeas, and unfortunately my local grocery store does not carry them. So I decided to pick up a can and make them homemade. A benefit to this was that I could control how much salt was going on them.
I didn’t follow any specific recipe for these. The only thing I looked up was cooking instructions. So as directed I rinsed the chickpeas for about 30 seconds and then patted them with paper towel to soak up the water. The chickpeas have to be fairly dry before you put them in the oven otherwise they’re going to steam instead of roast. So I dumped the dry chickpeas into a mixing bowl and poured 2 TSP of olive oil on them and then sprinkled about one TBSP of garlic powder, some chili flakes, and a pinch of salt. Once mixed well I dumped them on a baking sheet and stuck them in the oven at 400F for 20 minutes and giving them a shuffle at the 10 minute mark. The chickpeas should be crispy after 20 mins and if they’re not you should stick them back in.
Mine came out great and once cooled they were delicious! They’re a super handy and filing snack that I like to take on the go with me. I will definitely be making them again!
So my concoction:
- 2 TSB Olive Oil
- 1 TBSP Garlic Powder
- Sprinkling of Chili flakes (omit if you don’t like heat)
- Pinch of salt (Mine were not salty at all, which is how I prefer)
What flavour do you like on your roasted chickpeas? Any recipe ideas?
